Just wanted to share this 10′ x 20′ modular trade show display design we just turned in to production to start building.  One of the many outstanding features we’re excited about is that the display is being built by Eco Systems Sustainable Exhibits.  Founded in 2007, Eco Systems produces the “greenest” trade show displays in the industry using recycled aluminum, recycled plastic bottles and FSC certified wood products.  The greatest thing about going green doesn’t mean you have to look green.

One of the other modern design features of this 10′ x 20′ modular trade show display design is the center panel.  The center 10’section of the display is a lightbox with a graphic printed on a tension fabric material. Back lighting a display isn’t a new concept, but a lightbox of this size is a new and rapidly growing trend drawing exhibitors and potential customers in like moths to a flame.

20′ modular trade show displays offer many custom design elements.  The twin counters on our design are built as custom units that will ship in the crate as they are built saving installation time and individual parts damage.  These custom counters even have color changing LED lights built into the tops enabling our client to change and customize the colors with a handheld remote.  Another outstanding feature on one of the custom counters is we’ve added 4 USB charging ports onto the side of the counter which will give our client an opportunity to allow attendees to charge their devices while they discuss their products.

Our 10′ x 20′ modular trade show display design offers the additional advantage of being reconfigured into a 10′ display for smaller shows.  The large lightbox used as the center panel on the 20′ design will now function as the entire 10′ x 10′ display.  We’ve also used one of the custom counters and turned it around to function as a reception counter with locking storage.  A portable double sided tablet stand is also used to engage attendees in addition to the USB charging ports on the counter.

We recently built that great 20′ trade show display kit for a client and just had to share.  At TPS Displays Richmond we build a lot of 10′ x 20′ trade show displays, some modular that break down into smaller configurations, some tension fabric, some pop ups and some of our Dimensions line of displays.  This design was unique because the retractable banner stands needed to be used individually or as a 10ft backwall display so this client actually received 7 different display designs for the price of one moderately priced 20′ trade show display.

The banner stands used in the 20′ trade show display kit were our premium models with a lifetime hardware warranty printed on a durable vinyl.  We also included a spotlight for each banner stand with an energy LED bulb.  We then added our premium case to counter conversion to make a 10ft banner stand wall kit with large counter to make up the first 10′ trade show display.

For the next 10′ trade show display, we used 8′ x 8′ tension fabric pop up display with a full color stretch cotton graphic that stays on the frame at all times.  These displays easily set up in a couple of minutes and the display included LED lights and fit in our premium counter conversion with room to spare.  We chose the 8′ x 8′ frame over  a 8′ x 10′ model to ensure all 4 banner stands would fit in any space that was at least 18′ wide since we’ve all set up a trade show display only to find out we didn’t exactly get the full amount of space we paid for.

As you can see, this 20′ trade show display is very unique and the most versatile piece of the solution may be the reception counter.  We used our premium case to counter conversion that includes a high quality molded ship case with wheels that easily converts into a reception counter with a hinged black laminate top and 4 internal shelves.  The ability to actually have storage shelves on a ship case and use it as a counter is pretty unique and this ship case will fit just about any 10′ tension fabric display or tension fabric pop up display on the market.

Shipping the 20′ trade show display kit was a breeze as well.  The included premium ship case fit all the counter components and the tension fabric pop up with ease and a graphics case housed all of the banner stands and stem lights.  Shipping a 20′ trade show display in 2 ship cases that weigh less than 100 lbs combined is budget friendly and also nice when doing a local show when you transport the display in a vehicle.  This entire 20′ trade show display kit was also budget friendly coming in right around $3000.00.

“Custom Modular Displays” is a commonly used and possibly confusing term used in the trade show  industry mainly by manufacturers to describe their product but what does it really mean?  Simply put, a custom modular trade show display can be any size but typically are at least a 10’ x 10’ size up to an island exhibit.  Normally these displays are made up of an aluminum frame(s), have modern styling elements and use tension fabric graphics.

So what makes that so custom?  It’s not the hardware that is custom in all displays but custom elements can be added to make the display exactly what you need or add some custom items not found on pre-manufactured display kits.  The greatest advantage of owning a custom modular trade show display is the ability to reconfigure your display by purchasing or renting additional parts as your needs change.  In many 10’ x 20’ or larger custom modular designs, a smaller 10’ x 10’ booth option is included making this type of trade show display a smart investment if you have multiple trade shows with different booth sizes.

In a previous post we introduced the Dimensions line of tension fabric displays that we’re very excited to offer our clients.  Since that post, I’ve had the opportunity to assemble a 10’ x 20’ unit and decided to do a review.

The most commonly asked question I get is “What’s a tension fabric trade show display?”.  Simply put, it’s a portable trade show display with a lightweight aluminum tube frame that assembles like a pop up tent.  It comes with a full color graphic printed on a stretch fabric material that slides over the frame much like a pillowcase and zips shut at the bottom.

So what makes the Dimensions line so different and why are we so excited to carry it?  Well, that’s simple:

We could write an entire post about the advantages of the Dimensions displays but on to the review…………

The display we are going to review is the 10’ x 20’ Kit A.  It has three frames: 111” x 96” and two that are 56” x 87”.  The three frames make up a 218”w x 95”h display which is perfect for a 20’ space since it’s a little over 18’ wide.

Unpacking

The entire display frames, lights, and graphics are shipped in one molded ship case with wheels and is 43”h x 28”w x 13”d, weighing 94 lbs.  Not too bad, considering that a traditional 10’ pop up display weighs about 80 lbs.  The most surprising and impressive thing we found inside the ship case was each of the feet were stored in a black canvas storage bags to keep them from getting scratched or damaged in transit.  We also noticed a pair soft cotton gloves and a plastic sheet to lay on the floor when installing the graphics to keep them clean, which was a very nice touch.

Each of the three frames was also stored in a black canvas bag which saves valuable set up time.  The frame pieces have internal bungee cords and a Velcro strap keeps them secure for shipping.  A laminated instruction sheet was also included.

Set Up

The greatest feature of a tension fabric display is the ease of set up.  A typical 8’ x 10’ display is made up of two vertical frame sections, two horizontal frame sections, corners and possibly feet, depending on the design.  Each frame section is made up of either three or four pieces connected with an internal bungee cord.  You simply line up the pieces, push them together, and a lock button secures each piece.  I’ve seen a lot of tension fabric displays and the Dimensions display sets up just as easy as the rest.  The corners and ends of each frame section have an icon shape sticker that matches to the same shape on the end of the frame, making it nearly impossible to place the wrong sections of the frame together.

I’ve set up a lot of tension fabric displays for clients so I knew what to expect and how easy these are to assemble.  What I wasn’t expecting was the quality of the frame tubes.  The Dimensions’ are much thicker than others on the market with a smooth anodized feel to them.  This may not make assembly any easier, but it feels like a more quality product and a thicker tube will certainly help the pieces not bend as easily.  The push button technology, which locks the pieces together, worked flawlessly and the  internal bungee cords in each frame section were the perfect length and kept all the pieces together.

The biggest surprise and the thing that most drew me to this line were the feet.  That may sound like a small thing, but the feet on the Dimensions displays are larger than any other options I have seen before.  They also have a lock pin that secures them to the frame preventing them from spinning around and just generally add stability to the display based on their weight.  I have seen other trade show displays using multiple frames, but all of them just push the frames up against each other. In contrast, the feet of the Dimensions display actually have multiple mounting points for the frames so you truly have a back wall frame system that locks together.

Graphics and lights

The graphics for this style of tension fabric display are printed on a cotton/spandex material and it stretches to fit over the frame tightly to reduce wrinkles.  The graphic simply slides over the frame and has a large industrial size zipper at the bottom.  Putting the graphic on the frame is made easier by laying it down on the floor and sliding the graphic down on the frame,  much like you would a pillowcase over a pillow.  As I mentioned earlier in the review, a large piece of plastic is included in the kit that can be unfolded and placed on the floor to help keep your graphics clean during set up.

The lights for all of the Dimensions kits are a stem style LED light molded in silver plastic.  Because they are an LED light, they should work for many years and replacing a bulb is not necessary.  A simple twist clamp is installed at the end of the light. Tighten the light on the booth by placing the light on the top of the frame and turning the clamp handle. The lights can be placed anywhere you like on the top of the display.

Pros

·         Quality components, large weighted feet

Cons

·         Graphics can wrinkle (easily fixed with use of hand held steamer)

·          Aluminum tubes are thick, but can bend if abused (most aluminum bends).

Do I really like the new Dimensions line of tension fabric displays? Yes.  Do I think they are the perfect fit for everyone?  No.  If you’re looking for a portable tension fabric trade show display then I think the Dimensions are the best option available for the price.  They mix the advantages of a lightweight tube frame display with the modular elements of a custom style trade show display that you just won’t find with traditional pop up displays.  Are they perfect?  No.  Are they close?  Very.

To say we really like producing tension fabric pop up displays for our clients would be an understatement! We think this style of trade show display is an excellent choice for the seasoned trade show warrior or for someone wanting to attend their first trade show.  Unlike traditional pop up trade show displays with magnetic channel bars, mural and fabric panels and rolling graphics in a ship case, these lightweight displays have one large graphic that stays on the frame at all times and the entire display fits in a carry bag!That’s right, no need for heavy ship cases and shipping fees.
